We've had 3 weeks of rain since the first day of school, so our first trip to our new property for recreation was pretty wet.

Please forgive me for the time lapse since my last blog. School has started and I have been concentrating on getting the girls settled and everything running smoothly.

This year we have 25 girls (17 in first year, 8 in second). We only have 20 beds so some of the girls are doubled up, but no one is complaining.

Last Saturday was an exciting day for the ladies of the English language Bible study in the village of Castilla. Thanks to the generosity of ET Family Church in Nanaimo, and to Jack Hertzog who brought them down to Honduras, we were able to present English Bibles to this group of ladies whose first language is English. Since receiving their Bibles, Erica, my co-worker and leader of this group has received numerous calls expressing how thrilled they are to be able to read the Bible in their own language and to understand the scriptures more clearly.

One of our jobs during November and December was to deliver sewing machines to the girls who graduated from our program this year. This is Sindi Abigail. This is her home where she lives with a brother, her father and grandmother. Sindi will be one of our scholarship students next year when she plans to begin her first year of junior high school.

Just a quick update on the elections yesterday. Everything went smoothly and the international observers were pleased with the transparency. Now, we are concentrating on visiting our girls and preparing for next year. Hopefully things will be a little more stable for next years classes.

With the girls on their break it has given us time to do a lot of the "catch up" that never gets done while classes are on. We've rewritten the information manual, begun cleaning the Center, replaced the ripped window screens (a total of 38 !), etc. etc. It has been a very busy month and time is flying by. It will soon be time to start up classes again. We already have over half of our new students for next year and haven't even officially opened registration.

There are only 3 days now until the Honduran national elections. We are praying that everything will pass peacefully despite all the threats to disrupt and boycott them. It has been suggested that all North Americans stay in their houses on Sunday, election day, so I have decided to spend the day baking Christmas cookies.

Graduation was on October 30. It was a special day. Even though it was raining all over Honduras, here in Trujillo it was sunny and beautiful. There were between 175 and 200 guests at the Center to celebrate with our graduates.

This is Angelica, one of our second year students. This year, because of your support, we were able to have her eyes checked and purchase her glasses. Her vision was so bad that she couldn't read anything written on the board. Since receiving her glasses there has been a marked improvement in her grades. Thank you for giving her this gift.

This has been a great week. No curfew, no sick girls. There are only three weeks left until graduation, so the girls are busy, studying for final exams and making their graduation dresses. Graduation is a very big event in the lives of these girls, and we try to make it a day they will never forget.

We are still under curfew here in Honduras, but the hours have been changed to only at night which is a relief. Last week we had two solid days of 24 hour curfew. You can only imagine what it is like to be confined in a house with 20 teenagers for two days without the freedom of going out the front gate. The night curfew will probably be in effect until things are more politically stable here - that could take a long time. In the meantime, please continue to pray for Honduras.

Today, because of the political situation here in Honduras, we are under a 26 hour curfew - imagine what it is like to be locked in a house with 20 very active teenage girls. Hopefully the curfew will be lifted tomorrow. Politically things are very serious and we covet your prayers.

The most important part of a pinata --- seeing who can grab the most candy without causing any bodily harm..... only one girl ended up in tears when someone grabbed her earring - ouch.

This is Sinia, one of our first year students celebrating her 16th birthday today. Since March 26 I have made 20 birthday cakes,but almost forgot today's cake. Fortunately I remembered just in time to make it and get her gift wrapped before lunch time.
